Experimantal Study on the Absorption of Nasal Cavity

Abstract
In order to study absorptive capacity of nasal cavity in both physiologic and pathologic states, various substances, such as conventional dye(evans blue, methylene blue), 32P-saline solution and silver protein labeled with 131I, were injected into the nasal cavities of rabbits consisting of three groups (normal, acute inflammatory, and allergic inflammatory group). Concentrations off radioactivities of these substances in blood samples of each group Were measured and -the absorption rate of each substance was studied comparatively.
1, In normal(control) group, concentration of evans blue and radioactivities of 32P and 131I in whole blood were changed with similar pattern of time. The peak concentration and radioactivity were observed during the period of 4-7 hours after injection and then they decreased gradually. But, the concentration of methylene blue increased rapidly, reaching to the peak within 15 minutes after injection, and then decreased also rapidly.
2. In acute inflammatory group, serum concentrations of evans blue and methylene blue reached to the peak at 15 and 30 minutes after injection, respectively, and then they decreased gradually, whereas the whole blood showed the maximum radioactivity of 32P-saline and silver protein131I at 5 minutes after injection, rapidly diminished activity of them during the period of 30-60, minutes after injection, and stable one after then.
3. In allergic inflammatory group, evans blue and methylene blue reached to peak concentrations in the serum within 15-30 minutes after injection and when they, decreased slowly, whereas the radioactivity of 32P-saline and silver protein 131I in whole blood increased slowly, staying in considerably high level even at 12 hours after injection.
4. The absorbing power was generally weakened in allergic inflammatory group, particularly for the dyes, but in acute inflammatory group, the absorving power seemed increased considerably right after injection, though it was generally diminished as in the allergic inflammatory group.
